Jackie the Artist

This was a painting Jackie did for Jack to welcome him home from a trip. Look at all the things she included - the dog, Hyannisport, etc. This must have provided her with such a wonderful escape!

In "People" magazine's commemorative issue published shortly after Jackie's death, a reporter recalls how she watched Jackie paint this at her Hyannisport home. Jackie's mother and stepfather were there and Caroline. Jackie was pregnant with John but while everyone else sat and chatted, she kept working on her painting, "sipping a glass of rose wine and smoking cigarettes--and requesting she not be shown doing either." The article is a wonderful one and I will post it in the near future for those who haven't seen it.

Oh, and according to one of Ethel Kennedy's sons who showed "ET" around Ethel's home, Jackie also gave Ethel and Bobby a painting she'd done depicting the chaos of their home--a nanny marching in the front door as another flees through the back, the boys trying to lasso their governess, etc. Ethel actually has a very good sense of humor and proudly displayed it in her Hyannisport home. It was shown there on this ET special.
